Calendula officinalis infused oil great for aromatherapy

Calendula infused oil is a great oil to have in your tool box.

Calendula officinalis belongs to the botanical family Asteraceae/Compositae. It shares this family with Roman chamomile and German chamomile, helichrysum, and yarrow. Calendula is also related to ragweed, so if you are allergic, you should avoid using it.

The entire flower is typically harvested in the morning after it has dried from dew or rain. Harvesting encourages new blooms.

Calendula is frequently used for its antibacterial, antimicrobial, calming, and soothing properties, making it effective in managing acne and aiding in the repair of damaged skin from wounds or sun exposure. It also promotes cell proliferation, aiding in wound healing, reducing wrinkles, stimulating collagen production, and encouraging tissue regeneration.

Calendula may also help decrease gas and bloating. It is known for its anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties, which assist in alleviating painful menstruation and regulating the menstrual cycle. This infused oil is an excellent resource for aromatherapy practices.

Due to its soothing properties, it is ideal for dry, chapped skin and calming irritated and inflamed skin. It can be used in salads, soups, teas, as a garnish, a natural yellow dye, infused oils and vinegars, and applied topically to heal and soothe minor burns, cuts, and skin irritation.

It is a great ingredient for many homemade salves, balms, creams, and soaps.

Infused calendula oils are useful for massage, aromatherapy, and skincare products.

As an aromatherapist, we are trained to use these oils only topically or by inhalation. I do not recommend taking this infused oil internally. If you would like more information about whether it is safe to consume, please reach out to a herbalist.

You will find below some good resources I have found that go in greater detail if you are interested to know more.
