Healing Wellness Path extends heartfelt wishes for love, joy, health, peace, and prosperity to everyone in the new year. 2024 was a fantastic year for learning, exploration, discovery, and transformation. I am eager to see what 2025 has in store.
If you're like me, you enjoy beginning the year by listing your personal, career, and financial goals. Creating a detailed list of everything you wish to achieve, dividing larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps, and setting a timeline for some of them is an excellent strategy. It helps you stay focused while remaining engaged in your daily life.
Each year, many of us set out with good intentions. We establish New Year's resolutions and goals like exercising more, eating healthier, and adopting a wellness plan.
But what really happens? Why do so many fail to follow through? Why are these goals abandoned? Were they too difficult to achieve? I think many people have great intentions, but as work and life get busy, our priorities shift, and our wellness plans are often the first to be set aside, with the idea of returning to them later. Unfortunately, they might remain neglected for days, months, or even until the following year. Or, in some cases, an illness might force you to finally prioritize your health, which is the last thing you'd want to happen.
In my view, a wellness plan should be your top priority. Without your health—and believe me, this is true—nothing else matters. So, why do we abandon our goals?
Maybe if we approached our wellness plans differently, they wouldn't feel like a chore or a burden. I suggest focusing on our emotional and mental well-being. Many actions, like overeating, are linked to our emotional state.
When you feel emotionally and mentally well, you're inspired and motivated to stick to a wellness plan without any pressure. It becomes a part of your routine, just like having a cup of coffee each morning. You do it because it makes you feel good. Concentrate on one task at a time. Write down your goal or what you want to achieve on a piece of paper. Below the goal, note why and how you will achieve it. Then list potential obstacles. Be honest and consider all scenarios that might hinder your goal. Next, plan how to overcome these obstacles.
For example, if you want to eat healthily and lose weight, you might start the day motivated, eating well. But after a long workday, you feel tired. Your family is hungry and draining your energy. Nothing is prepared, so you order pizza. Then you feel guilty for eating a few slices, drinking soda, and having dessert. You think, "Why not? I've already failed at my goal." You give up and start feeling down.
A wellness plan that outlines your goals, how to achieve them, and how to tackle potential obstacles is a valuable tool. Knowing that your wellness plan can be reassessed, modified, and evolved over time is part of the process. Understanding and accepting setbacks and bouncing back is all part of the journey. Keeping a journal and receiving support from family and friends are excellent additions to your plan. This is especially crucial if you need to change your diet due to a digestive issue. Imagine suddenly being unable to eat gluten (bread, pasta) and foods high in histamine. This happened to me during the holidays. While everyone enjoyed appetizers, desserts, pastries, and bread, I couldn't. However, with a wellness plan, anything is possible.
Wellness is a beautiful journey of self-discovery. It's about learning about yourself, loving and accepting every part of your body. Embracing change, letting go, and moving forward with grace, you forgive, heal, and love yourself. The transformation itself is a wonderful experience.
Embracing the 5 precepts of Reiki and integrating them into all areas of your life is an excellent beginning. Just for today, I do not worry about the future. I allocate time to plan ahead; otherwise, I focus on being present every moment of my day.
Just for today, I do not anger. Reflecting on the past, pondering what could have been, and dwelling on it harms your mental and emotional well-being, potentially leading to physical health problems. Letting go and forgiving, despite the difficulty, is the best remedy. Louise Hay captures this perfectly in her book or audio, You Can Heal Your Life.
Just for today, work with honesty and integrity. Mindful work is an excellent way to navigate any workday, whether or not you enjoy your job. This might be a good time to consider what nourishes your soul versus what drains it. This year, try incorporating activities that inspire you into your daily routine. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals. Avoid negativity. Be truthful with yourself, set goals, and write them down. Journaling is a great method for tracking your achievements, lessons, and what didn’t go as planned.
Just for today, show compassion to yourself and others (and every living thing). Love and compassion are the most powerful tools we possess. Be kind to yourself. Discover who you are. Compassion can open the doors to understanding; viewing the world through the heart rather than the eyes or mind can transform a person or situation. It reveals the truth, enables forgiveness, and breaks the emotional chains holding you back.
Just for today, be grateful. I also like to add humility, as the ego can sometimes obstruct. Practicing gratitude for every person you’ve encountered, and situation, whether the experience was good or bad, and recognizing the valuable lessons, allows healing. It enables you to see things positively. Positivity attracts positivity in life.
I incorporate another daily concept from two highly recommended books by Don Miguel Ruiz: The Four Agreements & the Mastery of Love.
Be Impeccable with Your Words. By focusing on compassion, setting aside ego and pride, respectfully listening to others, and honouring their cultures and beliefs, you can transform your life from one of suffering to peace and tranquility. Avoid negativity—steer clear of gossipers who spread emotional toxins.
Do Not Take Anything Personally. By not taking things personally, you gain a new perspective. If someone says something untrue or insults you, remember it's about them and their situation. For instance, if someone having a bad day ignores your greeting, the person who doesn't take it personally would still reach out. They might surprise the person who was lost in thought. However, someone who takes it personally might walk away upset, wondering why there's animosity.
Don't Make Assumptions. When unsure, ask questions rather than creating stories to explain someone's mood or actions. Our minds often seek explanations. Continuing the example, the person who took the silence personally might create stories about why the other is upset. Similarly, if someone doesn’t reply to your text, you might worry unnecessarily. People have busy lives and may not respond immediately. Changing this thinking pattern reduces misunderstandings and increases happiness.
Always Do Your Best. Strive to do your best with the Four Agreements and the 5 precepts of Reiki. Be compassionate with yourself if you take something personally. Recognize that it may touch an emotional wound you need to address. The Mastery of Love beautifully describes emotional wounds.
I highly recommend these books to anyone seeking a better life transformation.
By looking within and taking responsibility for your healing, you will feel inspired and motivated to maintain your wellness routine.
In conclusion, going within to work on your emotional and mental health can be beneficial to your overall well-being. This inward journey allows you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a safe and constructive manner, fostering a deeper understanding of oneself. By dedicating time for self-reflection, you can identify underlying issues that may be affecting your mental state, such as unresolved traumas, negative thought patterns, or unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Furthermore, cultivating emotional intelligence through this process enhances one's ability to manage stress, navigate relationships, and respond to challenges with resilience. Incorporating the tools mentioned earlier can improve your healing journey. Techniques such as mindfulness, journaling, holistic therapies such as Reiki, and Aromatherapy, or counselling can serve as valuable tools in this exploration, enabling you to process your emotions and develop healthier responses.
Additionally, focusing on mental health can lead to improved physical health, as the mind and body are intricately connected. Stress reduction and emotional regulation can result in better sleep, a stronger immune system, and an overall increase in energy levels.
Ultimately, prioritizing emotional and mental health not only enriches personal life but also positively impacts interactions with others. By committing to this inner work, individuals can develop a sense of peace, purpose, and fulfillment, contributing to a more balanced and harmonious life.
