Making Natural deodorant using a secret ingredient great for sensitive skin(Part 2)

Homemade Natural Deodorant for Sensitive Skin

Developing a new natural product requires time and patience. What is effective for one person may not necessarily be effective for another. In Part 1, I utilized the same ingredients listed below, but I had used baking soda and diatomaceous earth instead of clays.

The deodorant in Part 1 was effective in combating perspiration and odor; however, individuals with sensitive or drier skin might find the baking soda and diatomaceous earth abrasive and harsh.

In this blog, I'm presenting another effective option you can try for creating natural deodorant for sensitive skin: clays. In this recipe, I used Bentonite and Kaolin Clays due to their absorbing qualities and ability to neutralize odors. They are also recognized for their detoxifying properties.

Ingredients

9 g of beeswax

15 g of shea butter

30 g coconut oil

10 g tapioca flour

12 g Bentonite clay for 1 and for the other I used Kaolin clay

3 d of tea tree

7 drops of lavender

Instructions:

Step 1: Measure all your ingredients and place them in separate bowls.

Step 2: Transfer the beeswax into the double boiler or the wax melter pot.

Step 3: Melt wax and add other ingredients, mixing well. Once thoroughly mixed and melted, if using a double boiler, carefully remove from heat and add essential oils (optional) and mix.

Caution: When using a wax melting pot, switch it off if it becomes excessively hot. I set mine to halfway, and it still melted my beeswax very quickly. I turned it off when it was near boiling, which you should avoid, particularly if you plan to add volatile compounds like essential oils.

Step 4: Transfer solution into your container(s).

Step 5: Let it cool. Place in the refrigerator or freezer to expedite the cooling process.

Step 6: Apply a thin layer to the underarms.

Important Note: My melting pot included a wooden spatula. As we know, wood is porous and should not be used for cutting raw meat on a cutting board. The same applies to this wooden spatula. I boiled mine for 5 minutes, and it was surprising to see how much came out even after it seemed clean. For this reason, I am switching to a plastic spatula and recommend you do the same to avoid introducing bacteria into your product.

Reasons why I used these ingredients:

Beeswax: For its moisturizing properties, providing a protective barrier against moisture loss. Beeswax is great to use in products because of its higher melting point, allowing your product to remain as solid and not melting.

Shea butter, Vitellaria paradoxa: Great at moisturizing and smells wonderful. Very emollient and suitable for all skin. It is great to add lotions and moisturizing cream. Caution: Shea butter has a chemical makeup closely related to latex. People you have sensitivity or allergies to latex may react to the shea butter.

Coconut oil, Cocos nucifera: Great at moisturizing, antibacterial, antifungal and can protect a bit from UV (4 to 8%).

Tapioca Flour Manihot esculenta or cassava: It is a great thickening agent, and it is used for its absorbent and soothing properties. Great if you have oily skin.

Bentonite clay: great at absorbing moisture, neutralizing odor, gentle on skin, good for all skin types, and draws out toxins. Long lasting odor protection.

Kaolin clay: great at absorbing moisture, neutralizing odor, draws out impurities, does not clog pores. Great for someone with sensitive skin.

Tea tree essential oils Melaleuca alternifolia: Used for its antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties.

Lavender essential oils Lavendula angustifolia: Also antimicrobial, the scent of lavender is very calming and relaxing.

After using this natural deodorant for sensitive skin, I observed the following results: In the first batch with Bentonite clay as an ingredient, the deodorant took longer to dry and remained soft at room temperature, so I store it in the refrigerator. For the second batch, I used Kaolin clay and increased the Beeswax from 8g to 9g. This version is less soft than the first and dries more effectively. Its reduced malleability might result in a thinner layer when applied, aiding in quicker drying. I noticed that none of the deodorants stained my clothing, but if you're concerned about staining, ensure it fully dries before dressing.

Switching to natural products requires time and experimentation, a journey that many embark upon with a mix of excitement and trepidation. It is not merely about changing brands or formulations; it involves a deep dive into understanding the ingredients that go into the products we use daily. This process often entails researching various natural ingredients, testing different combinations, and patiently waiting to see how these changes affect our skin and overall well-being.

I am incredibly proud of what I have achieved through this exploration and commitment to natural alternatives. After numerous trials, I have successfully developed a lotion that is not only highly moisturizing but also includes a blend of nourishing ingredients that work in harmony with the skin. The transformation I've witnessed in my skin has been remarkable; it appears healthier, more vibrant, and significantly more supple than before. The hydration provided by my lotion has helped to restore a youthful glow, enhancing my confidence and overall satisfaction with my skincare routine.

In addition to my lotion, I have created a deodorant that is gentle on my skin, which is particularly important for those with sensitivities or allergies to synthetic ingredients. This deodorant not only keeps me feeling fresh throughout the day, but it also allows my skin to breathe without the harsh chemicals often found in conventional products. I have also dedicated time to formulating a lip balm that I absolutely adore. This lip balm provides essential moisture and protection, keeping my lips soft and supple, especially during harsh weather conditions.

The thrill of knowing that these products are not only effective but also represent a healthy choice for my skin and body is immensely satisfying. Each application is a reminder that I am making conscious decisions that benefit my health. Furthermore, the peace of mind that comes from knowing my products are free from toxins and harmful chemicals adds an extra layer of happiness to my daily routine. It reassures me that I am not just caring for my skin but also nurturing my body in a holistic manner.

Overall, this journey into the world of natural products has been transformative, allowing me to cultivate a sense of pride in what I use and share with others. I look forward to continuing this exploration, discovering new ingredients, and refining my formulations to create even more effective and nourishing products.
