Are you looking for a change?

The path to wellness is a journey one must take should they wish to live a happier more fulfilling life.

Let’s explore the benefits of Reiki and why do we need it?

There are many benefits of receiving Reiki but before we indulge into all the wonderful things Reiki can do for us, it is important to understand why Reiki and other holistic wellness practices such as massage therapy, yoga, aromatherapy, meditation and mindfulness —to name a few—have become popular.

Our world has changed. Balancing work and family life is a common event. Working overtime to meet deadlines or because there is just too much work to do in a day is the “new norm”. The conflict we are feeling between work and not being with our families is disheartening. The race home or to work to pick up or drop off the kids on time is part of the daily routine. Cooking healthy meals after work has become something of the past — no one has time anymore. Becoming sedentary or desk-bound have created havoc to our bodies.

I personally find this lifestyle to be mentally draining, depressing and challenging to maintain.

It’s alright to have some stress in our lives, but the above is a recipe for chronic stress. When you are stressed for extended period of time, you start feeling overwhelmed and possibly the beginning of being burn out. Feelings of anxiety, heart palpitation, insomnia, high blood pressure, weakened immune system, and depression become a new reality in your life. You may feel not like yourself — irritable, impatient, angry and negative.

What to do? We cannot simply wave a wand and hope all is well. There are responsibilities, obligations that one cannot simply walk away from. So, we continue living in this vicious cycle, hoping that things will improve or change, but most time, they don’t. The new reality is that we have too much to do with so little time to do it. We find ourselves running on autopilot, unproductive, unfocused and unhappy.

When all of a sudden, we become ill, unable to do the things we took so much for granted. For myself, I struggled for 4 years, unable to walk 90% of the time - my knee swelled up to unimaginable proportion and the pain was unbearable all in the name of stress.

What can we do?

Firstly, to have awareness is essential. When you are aware that you are becoming overwhelmed or you feel not like yourself, it’s important to make an assessment of your health, not only physically but mentally and emotionally. If you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, I want to reassure you that you are not alone. There is a better way. Awareness if key to recognizing that there is an issue and it is important to not ignore the signs.

Next, is to know when to reach out for help. Reach out to a friend, family member, your leader, to your physician or counsellor. Seek the help that you need.

So when does Reiki come in…

Look at Reiki as a supplement to the above help. Reiki is a Japanese technique for deep relaxation. It works on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. When you are relaxed, your body autonomic nervous system switches from sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight mode) to parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest mode) allowing your body to heal naturally. So, by helping you relax — physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually— you are also supporting the help you may be receiving from your physician, physiotherapist or surgeon —just to name a few—so that your body heals faster.

With Reiki, you become more focus and therefore, more productive at work and at home. Your state of mind is more relaxed so that you may deal with stressful situation with clarity and in a composed, cool manner enhancing your problem-solving abilities and increasing your emotional intelligence.

By implementing in your busy schedule time to either meditate, yoga, stretching, exercising and energy healing such Reiki, you will find your stress and anxiety level decrease.

Below, you will find a list of benefits when attending regular Reiki sessions from an accredited Reiki practitioner. Please note that this is only a sample of what Reiki can do.
